On August 22, at the 2025 Nanhai District “Leaders Meet Youth” symposium, one young scientist captured the spotlight with his story. He is Qian Daishu, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Origin Intelligence Technology Co., Ltd. From studying abroad to choosing Nanhai, Foshan, as the starting point of his career, and leading a team to break Western dominance in high-end CNC laser machine tools—his journey epitomizes how personal ambition can align with regional strategies.

A Two-Way Journey Between a Manufacturing Hub and Tech Talent

When Qian returned from the U.K. in 2018, the domestic market for high-end CNC laser machines was still dominated by European and American giants.
By 2021, he made a pivotal decision: leaving Shenzhen to join Origin Intelligence in Nanhai, Foshan.

“I chose Nanhai because of its deep-rooted manufacturing DNA and clear innovation roadmap,” Qian shared during the event. “From township governments to district-level departments, the full-cycle support for tech enterprises allowed me to feel that Nanhai has innovation written into its very bloodline.”

Beyond its strong foundation in traditional industries, the city demonstrates an unrelenting drive to embrace the “new”—a core allure that draws young innovators like Qian to settle and thrive.

Breaking Monopolies, Competing Head-On with Global Giants

Laser-based CNC machines are complex systems whose performance hinges on breakthroughs across multiple core components. Qian explained that his team focuses on two key areas:

  1. Software CAM tailored for lasers, enabling precise control of machining paths and process parameters.
  2. Advanced optical systems, overcoming bottlenecks through beam-shaping, taper compensation, and high-precision focusing technologies.

By 2022, he pushed further—expanding the range of applications for laser machining. In addition to ultra-hard cutting tools, his team tackled frontier processes such as water-guided laser cutting, micro-nano surface texturing, and rotary laser drilling. The result: a “4+1” industrial matrix spanning ultra-hard tools, surface molds, lab-grown diamonds, 3C electronics, and semiconductors.

“To improve stability, we studied every pulse of the laser and every screw in the machine,” Qian said. It was precisely this spirit of persistent, detail-oriented craftsmanship that allowed Origin Intelligence to leap from “catching up” in technology to running neck-and-neck with global peers.

Today, Origin Intelligence is a domestic market leader in five-axis CNC laser machines, with technologies attaining internationally advanced levels. Over 90% of core components have been localized, dismantling Western monopolies across multiple domains. And since its five-axis machining centers are priced at roughly 60% of their foreign counterparts, the company offers unmatched cost-performance advantages.

Beyond China, Origin has already gone global—its machines are now exported to Europe, where they compete directly with international heavyweights.

Practicing Nanhai’s “Manufacturing First” Vision

“Behind these achievements lies Nanhai’s role in creating a stage where entrepreneurs dare to push boundaries,” Qian emphasized. He spoke highly of the region’s pro-business environment:

“The professional talent service team—from policy guidance and funding support to everyday-life care—embodies a genuine respect for innovation.”

Drawing from his experience, Qian also made two proposals at the forum:

  • Build a dynamic “Nanhai Youth Tech Talent Database”, categorized by expertise, to bridge experts with projects more efficiently.
  • Enhance support for overseas expansion, through incentives for international certifications, global channel partnerships, and other policy packages—to help elevate “Nanhai Intelligent Manufacturing” as a globally recognized brand.

Closing his talk, Qian declared:

“With light as my blade and innovation as my path, I will devote myself to Nanhai’s blueprint of building on manufacturing—igniting the engine of advanced equipment with the spark of laser technology.”
